CEO of Transport Traveloka, Iko Putera, stated that throughout 2023, Indonesian people were “diligent” in traveling abroad. This can be seen from the record of the number of transactions for overseas trips through Traveloka in 2023, which experienced an increase compared to 2022.
“If we look at the holiday trends based on the growth over the past year, it is quite strong for overseas trips. From year to year, it is 70 percent for trips abroad,” said Iko during the Traveloka Travel Fair 2024 at AEON Mall BSD City, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Tuesday (2/27/2024).
“So, in the context of the Eid holiday, domestic travel is already common, but for vacations abroad, it is still very strong,” he added.
According to Traveloka’s records received by CNBC Indonesia, Malaysia is one of the favorite destinations for Indonesian people to vacation abroad. Besides Malaysia, several other countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and South Korea are also the main destinations for Indonesian passport holders to vacation abroad.
Moreover, the attractions and activities favored by Indonesian people while abroad include Universal Studio Singapore, LEGOLAND Malaysia, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Universal Studio Japan.
Meanwhile, for domestic travel, Bandung, West Java; Jakarta; Yogyakarta; Surabaya, East Java; Semarang, Central Java; Malang, East Java; Bali; Solo, Central Java; Medan, North Sumatra; and Makassar, South Sulawesi, are the favorite destinations for Indonesian tourists.
As for attractions, Dufan Ancol (Jakarta), Jatim Park and Museum Angkot (Malang), Wahoo Waterworld (Bandung), and Garuda Wisnu Kencana (Bali) are popular tourist destinations for activities.
Traveloka held Traveloka Travel Fair 2024 at the Main Atrium of AEON Mall BSD City from February 26 to March 3, 2024. With the slogan #Don’t Worry No Rugi, visitors will be assisted by travel consultants to get recommendations for the best destinations and travel times.
