Argentina’s success in winning the 2024 Copa America is further solidified. Their star striker, Lautaro Martinez, has successfully clinched the Golden Boot as the top scorer of the tournament. The Inter Milan player scored five goals during the event in the United States.
With five goals to his name, Lautaro Martinez was unstoppable. He was two goals ahead of Venezuela’s Solomon Rondon, who scored three goals. However, Venezuela had already been eliminated, so Rondon couldn’t catch up to Martinez during the final match.
Martinez added to his goal collection in the final match held on Monday (15/7/2024) morning WIB. He scored the winning goal for Argentina against Colombia with a 1-0 victory in the final match, scoring in the 112th minute.
Prior to the final, Martinez scored goals against Peru (two goals), Chile, and Canada. Remarkably, Martinez was mostly utilized as a substitute in the 2024 Copa America. Coach Lionel Scaloni only fielded him for 240 minutes.
Winning the Golden Boot in the 2024 Copa America adds to Martinez’s list of personal accolades in goal-scoring. The 26-year-old had recently been crowned the top scorer in the Serie A Italian League for the 2023/2024 season.
