Doha, Qatar — Prabowo Subianto, the President-elect for the period 2024-2029, stressed the significance of laying a solid foundation for national advancement at the Qatar Economic Forum held in Doha, Qatar from May 14 to 16, 2024.
During a discussion with Haslinda Amin, the Southeast Asia International Correspondent for Bloomberg, Prabowo reiterated that nation-building is a continuous process. He commended President Joko Widodo for establishing a strong groundwork for future development.
“Nation-building is a long-term endeavor. President Joko Widodo has established a sturdy foundation. I am committed to building upon that foundation, with a primary focus on ensuring food security,” stated Prabowo.
When questioned about his priorities, Prabowo underscored the importance of self-sufficiency and security in food and energy.
“My primary concern is food security. Indonesia must attain food self-sufficiency, followed by energy resilience and sufficiency. We are resolute in eradicating poverty through a robust campaign and dedicated efforts,” he added.
Furthermore, Prabowo expressed his resolve to address nutrition concerns for Indonesian children through a free lunch program.
“I am steadfast in eradicating hunger among our population. Our research indicates that it is achievable, and we are confident in our ability to achieve this goal,” he affirmed.
Regarding the funding for these initiatives, Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s cautious fiscal management tradition. Under his leadership, he plans to enhance efficiency and bold decision-making with a focus on good governance.
During the forum, Prabowo also pledged to continue implementing industrial downstreaming policies.
“We must safeguard our interests by adding value to our industrial output. Dependence on imported goods hinders our progress. To evolve into an advanced industrial nation, we must move beyond raw material production,” Prabowo emphasized.
Prabowo reiterated that his action plan aims to establish sustainable prosperity in Indonesia and stressed the importance of collaboration with international partners.
