Prabowo Subianto, the newly elected President of Indonesia for the period 2024-2029, along with Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, attended the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha on Wednesday (4/15/2024).
During the event, Prabowo, as one of the speakers, was asked about his upcoming leadership style. He assured that he would remain true to himself to bring prosperity to the Indonesian people.
“I will remain true to myself sincerely. This means being loyal to my principles, values, and aspirations as a patriot. My primary value is the welfare of my people. My people should be safe, not hungry, and must have a decent life. That is the dream of every patriot in every country in the world,” said Prabowo.
Furthermore, Prabowo emphasized that his past as a soldier would not affect his policies, including in terms of democracy while leading.
“You know, I have been out of the military for more than 25 years. In my opinion, my past as a soldier is irrelevant and does not affect anything,” Prabowo asserted.
“Let me ask, why not seek the opinion of the Indonesian people on democracy? I have participated in four general elections and sought the approval of the people three times. They did not approve of me. However, this time they have given their approval. Where is the concern about democracy? In my opinion, it is only made up by a few people. So, I will work hard not to disappoint my people. The legacy we want to leave behind is a good name, a good name in the history of our country,” added Prabowo, followed by applause from the audience.
He stated that his desire to serve is based on sincerity to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people. He wants to contribute with his insights and leadership experience.
“I was raised in various countries and saw many of them suffer from poverty. In my heart, I cannot accept that in the present time. Indonesia is a member of the G20 and the fourth most populous country in the world. Many of my compatriots still live in great difficulty. That is what drives me. I want to do my part. I want to contribute with my insights and leadership experience. I am confident that I can make a significant contribution to improving the welfare of my people,” Prabowo concluded.
