President-elect Prabowo Subianto wrote an opinion piece for NewsWeek on June 12, 2024, titled ‘The Road Ahead for Indonesia—One of the Fastest Growing Economies in Asia’. In the article, Prabowo discussed his plans for improving the quality of life for Indonesians, with a focus on implementing a free nutritious meal program for schoolchildren. However, some were concerned about the omission of the development of the new capital, Nusantara (IKN), in Kalimantan.
Gerindra Party’s Deputy Chairman, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, clarified that Prabowo’s silence on the IKN project in his article does not mean he plans to discontinue it. Dasco reassured the public that Prabowo will continue President Jokowi’s programs, including the IKN, as confirmed by various statements made by Prabowo in the media. Hence, the speculation and misinterpretation surrounding Prabowo’s stance on the IKN project are unfounded.
