President-elect Prabowo Subianto has made a commitment to reducing the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) for public universities. In an exclusive interview on TvOne titled “Prabowo Subianto Speaks for Indonesia” today, Prabowo stated that he will work hard to make this ambition a reality.

Prabowo emphasized the importance of keeping fees in state universities, which are funded by public money, at a minimal or even free level. He expressed concerns about the education system becoming too commercialized, adopting capitalist values, especially since the New Order era.

Prabowo stressed the need to view education as a public good and a social obligation for the country, rather than a market commodity. He also mentioned the government’s plan to make improvements in the education sector, with a focus on industrial downstreaming to increase state revenue and add value to education.
