Prabowo Subianto Reunites with Longtime Friend Anwar Ibrahim, Invites Him to His Inauguration

Prabowo Subianto, the Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect for 2024-2029, recently met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on September 7. The two leaders, who have a strong friendship, discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and Malaysia.

This meeting came after Prabowo’s earlier meeting with the King of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim. During their discussions, both Prabowo and Anwar reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the ongoing bilateral cooperation between their neighboring nations.

Prabowo expressed his gratitude for the productive discussions and reiterated Indonesia’s dedication to building a harmonious and mutually beneficial defense relationship with Malaysia. He also extended a personal invitation to Anwar to attend his presidential inauguration in October in Jakarta.

Anwar, on the other hand, expressed his joy at meeting his long-time friend and congratulated Prabowo on his election as Indonesia’s next president. He accepted the invitation to the inauguration and shared his excitement on his official Instagram account.

In terms of bilateral relations, Anwar highlighted the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries. He stressed the commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and regional cooperation within ASEAN.
