Jakarta – Prabowo Subianto, the Minister of Defense and president-elect, greeted the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, at the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) office in Jakarta on April 18. Accompanied by his delegation, Wang Yi arrived at 10:58 AM WIB and was welcomed by Prabowo in front of the Kemhan building. They shook hands and proceeded inside.
Prabowo expressed his gratitude for the visit, mentioning his warm reception in Beijing a few weeks earlier when he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Qiang, and Minister of Defense, China Dong Jun. The meeting between Prabowo and Wang Yi was held privately and focused on defense cooperation, particularly in education, joint training, and the defense industry.
Indonesia and China have a long-standing partnership, especially in the defense sector with ongoing collaboration in education and training since the 1970s. This cooperation still continues today, with Indonesian defense personnel studying in China and Chinese soldiers attending military education in Indonesia.
During their meeting, Wang Yi congratulated Prabowo on his victory in the 2024 presidential election and expressed confidence in Indonesia’s progress under his leadership. Wang Yi praised Prabowo’s leadership and expressed his belief in Indonesia’s national development and resurgence under his presidency.
