Jakarta – Malaysia has expressed its willingness to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza, Palestine, in collaboration with Indonesian troops following a discussion with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim made the announcement, as reported by Antara on Monday (July 1, 2024).
“I would like to inform about Malaysia’s readiness to cooperate in addressing the humanitarian situation in Palestine, including deploying peacekeeping forces alongside Indonesia if mandated by the UN,” Anwar stated on his social media account from Kuala Lumpur.
Anwar expressed gratitude for the successful surgery of the Indonesian President-elect during a brief three-minute conversation with Prabowo. He also wished for Prabowo’s speedy recovery so he can resume his duties, emphasizing the good care he is receiving.
Furthermore, Anwar highlighted Prabowo’s recent international representation for Indonesia and efforts towards promoting regional and global peace and cooperation.
“I am in favor of a joint Malaysia-Indonesia international peacekeeping mission, which could potentially expand to the ASEAN level,” Anwar added.
He concluded the discussion by expressing hopes for a smooth and successful Indonesian election process, including the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on November 27, 2024, and the inauguration of Prabowo as President of Indonesia on October 20, 2024.
