What to Expect at the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2024?
The Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2024, one of the most prestigious Jazz festivals in Indonesia, is back for its 19th edition on May 24-26, 2024 at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran. This year, with the theme “Embracing Unity Through Music,” the festival aims to promote unity and bring together people from different backgrounds through the universal language of music.
At a press conference, the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival announced the lineup of musicians who will perform on 11 stages spread across the festival area. Enjoy various music genres and a kaleidoscope of music and culture as Indonesian and international performers showcase the fusion of music styles live on stage.
Headlining the festival in 2024 are Jazz legends and sensational contemporary musicians, including Grammy Award-winning Icelandic Jazz singer-songwriter Laufey. Also recently confirmed to perform is Snoh Aalegra, a Swedish-born Iranian singer who has received various Grammy nominations and won the Swedish Grammis.
Also set to perform is the melodious singer October London, who in 2022 signed with Snoop Dog’s Death Row Records, and the skilled drummer The Yussef Dayes Experience known for his innovative style and genre-breaking compositions.
Legendary trumpeter Randy Brecker will be a special guest performer alongside Scatter The Atoms That Remain, a group led by drummer Franklin Kiermyer with music director Davis Whitfield promising a dynamic blend of Jazz, Funk, and Hip-Hop.
Talented musicians from the music world will also perform at the upcoming festival, including the versatile Australian singer-songwriter Rai Thistlethwayte and the rising British Jazz group Yakul.
Other musicians who have confirmed their presence at the festival include Eliane Elias, a Grammy Award-winning Brazilian soprano singer and pianist known for her energetic performances of Brazilian music and Jazz standards, as well as her flawless technique. 92914 (Gu i Gu iL Sa), a duo from South Korea who play captivating electronic fusion Jazz, will also make their first appearance at the festival.
The return of Incognito, who released their 19th album “Into You” in 2023, is eagerly awaited at this annual event. Also performing is multi-platinum award-winning singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez. Additionally, the lineup includes American singer-songwriter Joyce Wrice, known for her powerful songs and soft vocals. Her debut album made the list of the Best R&B Albums of 2021 by Rolling Stone.
The funky group Scary Pockets, known for their cheerful live performances and viral funk covers of popular songs with over 1 million subscribers on their YouTube channel, will also perform. Furthermore, skilled guitarists Thiago Genthil and Leo Amuedo, known for their expressive play and perfect techniques, will collaborate with Indonesian musicians in a festival that continues to feature musicians from both local and international scenes.
The dynamic sound quality of The Main Squeeze, the high-octane Jazz, Funk, and R&B fusion of Kennedy Administration, and the heartfelt lyrics and emotive vocals of Ricky Montgomery are all anticipated by audiences. Another Grammy Award-winning musician, Keyon Harrold, also will liven up the festival; he is known as the “future of trumpet.”
Another surprising act is The Amy Winehouse Band, the original backing band of Amy Winehouse, which will celebrate Amy’s music, life, and legacy on stage. From neighboring countries, Aisha Retno, a young singer-songwriter from Malaysia with Indonesian heritage, will dazzle the audience with her powerful performance.
Also, enjoy unique collaborations of musicians from various genres and backgrounds coming together on stage, showcasing each other’s musical abilities beyond boundaries such as: Gary Anthony with Ron King Big Band, Paul Brown with Ron King Big Band.
