Berapa Langkah yang Harus Dilakukan Setiap Hari agar Mengurangi Risiko Kematian Dini

Pekerja Jakarta has what it like after the wages increase for 2024. Amidst the decision taken, these workers in Jakarta are seen taking a break from their strenuous work routines to stretch their legs and walk around. It is a well-known fact that sitting for extended periods is detrimental to health. Prolonged sitting can increase the risk of obesity, spine and neck issues, cognitive decline, and even premature death.

A recent study has shown that engaging in proper physical activity can help reduce the risks associated with prolonged sitting. According to a report by Science Alert, individuals who spend too much time sitting can offset these negative effects by taking a walk. It is a well-known fact that the more steps one takes, the lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and premature death.

Matthew Ahmadi, a public health expert from the University of Sydney in Australia, stated that walking can counteract the negative effects of sitting in front of a computer for too long. Ahmadi and his colleagues analyzed data from 72,174 volunteers who contributed to the UK Biobank, a large long-term data collection established in 2006. The researchers tracked the participants’ health measures for at least 30 years.

The team found that walking 9,000 to 10,000 steps a day is optimal for combating a sedentary lifestyle. This can reduce the risk of heart incidents by 21% and the risk of death by 39%. Researchers also discovered that 50% of the benefits start at around 4,000 to 4,500 daily steps.

“Every daily step count above the benchmark 2,200 steps per day is associated with lower mortality rates and cardiovascular disease risks, for both low and high sedentary times,” said Ahmadi and his colleagues. “Walking 9,000 to 10,000 steps a day optimally reduces the risk of death and cardiovascular disease,” he added.
